Practice Model & Scope of Care

Dr. Janik operates aย solo private psychiatric practice.

This model allows for exceptionally thoughtful, attentive, & individualized psychiatric care.

However, it also means…

There are realistic limitations in the level of crisis support and monitoring that can be providedย in a solo-psychiatrist practice

Thus, this practice is designed forย patients who are, generally speaking, psychiatrically stable and appropriate for routine outpatient psychiatric care.

This clinic mayย not be an appropriate settingย for individuals who experience the following:

  • Active suicidal or homicidal ideation
  • Recent or frequent psychiatric hospitalizations
  • Severe or unstable psychiatric symptomsย requiring close monitoring and possibly requiring higher levels of care in the near future.
  • Crisis-level psychiatric care
  • Complex situations requiring frequent urgent visits and/or immediate access to care

Individuals experiencing such psychiatric emergencies or safety concerns should instead seek care through:

 – Emergency services

– Hospital systems

– Community mental health programs

– Larger group practice settings

These larger group settings are better equipped to provide the level of support often required in such complex and/or unstable situations.

These boundaries allow Dr. Janik to maintain a safe and sustainable practice while providingย high-quality outpatient psychiatric careย within the scope of a solo physician practice.

Benzodiazepine Prescribing Policy

Dr. Janik takes aย conservative & evidence-based approachย to medications with severe dependency and long-term side effect potential, including benzodiazepines (such as alprazolam/Xanax, clonazepam/Klonopin, lorazepam/Ativan, and similar medications).

General Policy:

  • In general, this practiceย does not routinely initiate benzodiazepine treatmentย for anxiety, panic disorder, or insomnia.
  • Patients seeking ongoing benzodiazepine prescribing may find another provider better aligned with their treatment preferences.
  • In some cases, individuals currently taking benzodiazepines may be evaluated with the goal of reducing or tapering these medications when clinically appropriate, while exploring safer long-term treatment strategies.
  • This policy reflects concerns regarding dependence, tolerance, cognitive side effects, and long-term safety associated with benzodiazepines.
  • If benzodiazepine treatment is a primary goal of care, another psychiatric provider may be a better fit.

    • Unfortunately, we do not accept the HPN/Sierra Health & Life plans.

** We do not accept any Medicare or Medicaid based plans **

  • Uninsured or out-of-network patients are still welcome via self-pay:
    • New patient evaluation cash rate = $300
    • Follow up appointments cash rate = $165
